If you'd like to contact me: TMF222@YAHOO.COM 78th Annual Academy Awards! March 5, 2006 - 12:37 pm ![]() It's that time again! Today is 2006's Oscar Day!! I'm so excited!!! I'm making Bart watch "Walk the Line" prior to the awards. Hopefully he'll love it as much as me (naw, that's not possible). I don't have any strong wishes on who I want to win, but I am rooting for a few. I want to win the Oscar pool at work! Here are my predictions:
There was a movie left out of this category that I'd rather be rooting for (Walk the Line), but Brokeback would be my second choice. All of the nominated movies were great though (well, Munich was a little more difficult to get through). However, I liked Brokeback Mountain more than the other movies. It was a tragic love story, and you know how I feel about tragic love stories! Who will win: Brokeback Mountain I think Brokeback will win quite a few awards tonight. In fact, I think it may win every category it's nominated for (except the acting categories). It's been winning at all the other award ceremonies, so I think it's a safe bet.
I definitely don't feel strongly that Ang Lee should win. Brokeback is just such a great movie, and it's interesting to think that the director also directed Hulk. The material is also challenging, given that the two main actors had a tough time with certain scenes. So there's that trust that makes the movie more special. Who will win: Ang Lee Yep, this is definitely a category that is going to go to Brokeback Mountain. I don't have one single doubt about it.
Did I even need to tell you who I want to win? I saw Walk the Line four times in the theater (in NYC even!)! This is definitely my favorite movie of the year, and Joaquin has soooo much to do with that. I can't recall another movie where he was better. He sounded exactly like Johnny Cash! And he was very nice to look at! The way he worked the microphone and held his guitar....goodness, it's too much! Who will win: Philip Seymour Hoffman Yes, sadly, I don't think Joaquin is going to win. Philip Seymour Hoffman was really really good though, and I will be happy for him. He definitely deserves the Oscar. His performance in Capote makes the movie. Plus, he went to NYU!
Again, I didn't really need to say that! I'm so obsessed with the movie right now. This is probably the only category that I feel really strongly about. I feel strongly about the Best Actor category, but Philip really deserves it...so I'm rooting for him too. This category is different. Reese has a huge chance at winning, and I think that would be awesome! She has such a great range as an actress (Freeway, anyone? Man in the Moon?), and she was so impressive in this movie. Who knew she could sing? And she had to learn to play the autoharp. Yes, I really want her to win! Who will win: Reese Witherspoon Felicity Huffman has a very good shot at winning, and she may win. Her and Reese have been winning an equal number of other awards, but I'm going to go with my pick. I can see Reese's name being read. Felicity hasn't had the film career that Reese has had, so she has less going for her. Felicity was great, don't get me wrong...but I really think Reese will win. C'mon...go Reese!!!
I'm so happy that Jake got nominated! I feel he's been getting overlooked so much this awards season. I was more impressed with Jake's performance than Heath's, and it doesn't seem like that many people are agreeing with me. I don't think Jake is going to win, but it's great that he'll forever be an Academy Award Nominee! Who will win: George Clooney George is nominated for three awards, and I think this is the category he'll win. I'd rather him win for the other two than this one, but I think he should win something. I found Syriana to be very boring and hard to follow, but I'm sure my opinion will change after I see it for the second time. The torture scene is difficult to watch, and George got hurt in real life doing it...so yeah, I think he's going to win. I want to add that I like that Matt Dillon got nominated. He was good in Crash. I wouldn't say it was his greatest performance, because he plays a jerk all the time, but nevertheless, he was good. He's never been nominated before, and he has a very long resume of great performances. I'm glad he finally got recognized. And I would be happy if Paul Giamatti won. He got seriously snubbed for Sideways, so maybe the Academy will make up for their mistake.
This was a tough category to choose my favorite performance. I absolutely loved Amy Adams in Junebug, so she's definitely my close second pick. She was so great! And I loved Catherine Keener too. Her performance (like Michelle's) is more internal and quiet. Rachel was brilliant as well. Frances would be my last choice. In the end, I had to go with Michelle Williams. I don't think her performance was necessarily the best in this category. But I have to be loyal to Dawson's Creek, my forever favorite TV show. I feel so proud of her. I watched Dawson's Creek from the very first episode to the very last, and I love that Michelle is now an Oscar nominee! Good job, Michelle! Who will win: Rachel Weisz I watched this movie just last week in my final attempts to catch up for the Oscars. I was blown away by The Constant Gardener. It's unbelievably sad, and Rachel's character is soooo passionate. She was so impressive, and I can't think of another actress that could have done the role better. A few others that I want to win: -March of the Penguins (Best Documentary Feature): This movie was amazing! I have such a respect for penguins after seeing this movie! I find their lives fascinating. They risk their lives, literally, to find a mate and have a baby. And it's the male penguin that cares for the egg and protects it while the female goes out and gets food. I loved, loved this documentary and I desperately hope it wins! -Travelin' Thru by Dolly Parton for Transamerica (Best Original Song): I'm all about the country music! Go Dolly! So those are my predictions for tonight's ceremony! I'm so excited...just a few more hours! Good luck to all the nominees! |
