End of London!

May 20, 2003 - 8:08 am

These past few weeks have been crazy! I need to talk about my last week in London before I can talk about anything recent.

Ok, so the weekend before I left, Bart came to visit. We went to three movies the first day, which was so much fun. We saw: 'Dreamcatcher' (which Bart said he hated, I've seen worse, but it wasn't the best, oooo, but I did enjoy Timothy Olyphant's part....he's so hot), 'Phone Booth' (we saw this with Lisa and Jason....SUCH a good movie, Colin Ferrall...yummm), and then 'Donnie Darko' (we've both seen this movie, and we both really like it...well I think Bart really likes it). Over the next few days we went to the London Zoo (where a monkey grabbed my finger...so cute), the London Eye, and just hung out. I tried really hard not to be bitter about the fact that Bart seemed to be somewhere else the entire time. Also that he isn't trying to be in New York for the summer with me anymore, he's staying in Paris for a boy. I ended up feeling VERY bitter. Oh well. We did have a good time, but it could have been better.

After Bart left, I only had a week left in London. I used one of my last days to finally be a tourist and see all of London's trademarks. I went to Westmister Abbey, the Houses of Parliment, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, and the National Portrait Gallery. I only went to the National Portrait Gallery to see the original William Shakespeare portrait. It was a museum, and I hate museums. BUT.....the best thing that could have possibly happened to me (on my way to see the Houses of Parliment) HAPPENED!!! Well, I just happened to be walking past Downing Street, which is where my beloved Tony Blair lives. Guess who walks out of his house at the exact moment I walk by??? TONY BLAIR!!!! I was in total shock. You see I have a crush on Mr. Blair (even if he's married and has 4 kids, one of which is my age). If you don't know, Tony Blair is the British Prime Minister. That was such an amazing moment!!!! Wow, I still cannot believe I saw Tony Blair. This doesn't qualify as just a regular celebrity sighting....this is Tony Blair!!! Ok, must move on....

The last few days went by so fast. I took my metaphysics final, went to a Shakespeare play (where Christina literally *slapped* me when she found out that I'd seen Tony Blair....she slapped me on the arm, not hard, it was just her incredible reaction to the wonderful news), bought lots of souvenirs for me and my family, and tried to enjoy the last few days with my new friends. There was a farewell BBQ for all of the NYU in London students. It turned out to be a lot more fun than I had anticipated. Lots of pictures were taken, lots of sad goodbyes were said....and then I left. I was originally supposed to go to the movies with Christina and Kelly, but it turned out that practically my whole building was going out to Backpackers that night. I really really wanted to go. Christina and Kelly said they understood if I wanted to go. So I went. I ended up going with Dave and his friend. There was a special at the bar, open bar with a 7 pound cover. Not bad. So, NYU sort of invaded this bar. Everyone was there!!! I had such a blast! I got really pissed (drunk), took lots of pictures, danced with my friends, then left with Dave. I packed the next day, then went to a final Shakespeare play AT THE GLOBE!!! Shakespeare's Globe in so incredible on the inside....so beautiful! I only stayed for the first half of the play, because I had lots left to do. I finished packing, went downstairs to the boys' room to play a few final games of cards, said my very sad goodbyes to everyone, then headed off to the airport.

There were a bunch of NYU people on my flight, including Jason and Yulian. I hung out with Yulian while I waited to board. Then, finally, on the plane back to New York City!!!! YAH!!!!
