I Get to Make a Movie!

March 21, 2003 - 7:33 pm

So, I went to Shakespeare's Globe theater this morning. This theater is a recreation of the original open-top from back in the day. The theater was absolutely beautiful. Just being there gave me chills. I spent a little too much money in the gift shop, but, weirdly, I didn't feel guilty about it. Strange.

My friends Eric and Christina (and another girl Alison) said they were going to see this anti-war speech thing. It didn't interest me much at first, but then they said that two of the speakers were Judi Dench and Jude Law. OKAY! I was SOOOO going with them. So, we all walked around Thames riverbank for a while, grabbed a late lunch, and went to the National Theater. We were almost the first ones there, so we were literally about 10 feet from the microphones. Disappointment though, because I didn't know a lot of the speakers, and I was SOOOO not interested in anti-war talk. BUT, most of all, Jude Law failed to show. I did get to see (and take a picture of) Judi Dench. She's is so incredibly tiny. So weird. She's so adorable though. I really wanted to see Jude Law. What a jerk!!! (I'm just kidding, Jude. I really love you, really!!!) Here's a small, but very recent picture of Judi Dench.

If you don't recognize her, click here.

For my British cinema class we have to make this mini-movie tomorrow. My friend Eric(mentioned above) is in my group. There's this running joke between me and him (and a few more friends and classmates of mine). You see, a while ago I tried to meet Joseph Fiennes after his play. I didn't succeed in actually talking to him (I did see him up close though, but still, I failed). Now, I get teased about it all the time. Well, our movie is going to be called "Looking For Joseph Fiennes". This is so funny! Basically, I'm going to go up to a bunch of strangers on the street and ask if they've seen Joseph Fiennes and/or if they know where I can find him. It's going to be a blast. We're going to put up posters and signs. I think we're even going to the National Theater where his play is and talk to the stage door guys. The stage door guys know Jospeh Fiennes (and I've embarrassed myself in front of them before). So exciting!!!

I think I should comment on my globalization class. I don't know if I should consider it my worst class anymore, because, besides being boring, it's incredibly easy. We got our first paper back yesterday. I was very scared, because the professor's criteria of grading sounded extremely brutal. And of course, I waited until the very last minute to write the paper. I started the day before, and then changed my topic at 10:30 pm (the night before). I didn't even answer the topic/question that I was supposed to answer in my paper. The paper kind of jumped around. Guess what my grade was!!! B+ Maybe I'm just amazing...naw, that's not it. Maybe I'm just really lucky...naw, that's not it either. I just think the professor's really nice. He said it was a good, competent paper (among other things) in his comments. I actually felt SO guilty, because I didn't deserve that grade at all. To top things off, I had to give my individual presentation yesterday. I had picked a topic I was semi-interested in. However, I wasn't prepared at all. And I presented it very colloquial. I had put together this film exercise as part of the presentation. I put 15 films (and all their individual information) together and asked the class to count how many they considered British. Most of them I would have considered to be American, but they were claimed to be British by the BritFilmCatalog (an index of all british films). It seemed like such a stretch to call most of them British. A few films were: Captain Corelli's Mandolin, The Big Lebowski, The Beach, A Clockwork Orange, Die Another Day (yucky), and The Four Feathers. I'm starting to stray away from my point (grr, tangents are so frustrating sometimes). My professor told me that my presentation was "absolutely brilliant" and he will incorporate it into his future lectures. He's never commented like that on anyone else's presentation. I can't believe how easy this professor is letting me off. OOOOoooo, I just had a thought. I missed his class the day after I had my seizure, and my roommate Lisa had told him what happened. What if he is giving me special treatment??!! Surely not. I guess I shouldn't argue. Our final paper is due in a few weeks. This paper has to be a little more than 10 pages long and it's worth 50% of our grade. That's a little scary.

Today is my Mom and Aunt Bonnie's 41st Birthday! Everyone, on the count of three..."Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Mommy and Bonnie...Happy Birthday to you!" Please, if you see these absolutely wonderful relatives of mine, wish them a Happy Birthday!
