New York Summer

May 25, 2003 - 12:20 am

I really need to get started on my time back here in New York. I'll start with the first week.

After arriving at JFK, I shared a cab into the city with Jason. I had no idea that JFK was so far! I came to the conclusion that I did not like JFK, and LaGuardia will be my airport of choice from now on. Jason called Lisa from the cab, and I got to say hi, which was nice. Then, he let me call Melissa, but I couldn't remember our number. I called my mom next. Mom happened to be talking to Mel online at that moment, so she told Melissa that I was on my way. Jason was dropped off first, because he had a class at the Kaplan building. He ended up paying the complete cab fare of $40, which I didn't realize until after he'd got out. He is such a super sweetie!!!

Next was my long awaited reunion with Melissa!! I was so excited! Hugs and hellos followed. I got to finally meet Joe, who I'd heard so much about over the years. I also met Mel's aunt Carol. Her mom, Chris, was there too, but I'd already met her. I absolutely LOVE Melissa's family. They make me feel so comfortable, like I can say or do anything without any funny looks or judgement. They are exactly like my family. Some parents try to act all aristocratic and fancy, but Mel's is so down to earth and NORMAL. Joe is amazing as well. As soon as I met him, it was like I'd known him all my life. We joked around right off the bat. LOVE MELISSA'S PEOPLE!!! Everyone should be like our families.

That night we all (minus Carol) went to see "X-Men 2". I DID NOT like this movie. Melissa, Joe and Chris are all big fans, so they loved it. I thought the movie was really boring! REALLY boring. I did enjoy Alan Cumming's character though (Night Crawler). He was strangely VERY sexy with that costume. Alan Cumming is NOT sexy normally. Rebecca-Romijn Stamos was pretty sexy too, but she's just a beautiful person anyways.

That Monday Melissa graduated. I couldn't go, because she only had enough tickets for Joe, Chris, and Carol. That evening Chris took us all out to the very fancy and high class NY restaurant, Tavern on the Green. We all had SO much fun, even though we were a tad out of our element. I decided to have the Fillet Mignon. I'd never had it before, but I'd always wanted to. I knew it was the best of the best (and I remembered how Mr. Willets used to tell us in 7th grade that he was only going to eat fillet mignon when he became rich). The steak alone was $40. The final bill had to horrendous! Mel had an apple martini and became goofy. Lots of laughs were had, mostly from Melissa's reaction when we realized that Bill Mahr was sitting right behind us. He's the host of the TV show 'Politically Incorrect'. I really loved this restaurant and I hope to go back someday.

The next day Melissa and I had a bobcat event at the Hilton. We had to work at the School of Social Work's graduation. I was so happy that I was getting to work with Melissa, since it would be the last time ever. I ran into my old roomies Lydia and Diana. Lydia looked amazing. Her hair is really long now. We talked a bit and took some pictures. She still has some of my stuff from sophomore year. We exchanged numbers. That afternoon I returned to work! It was such a great day! Everyone was so happy to see me! Lots of hugs and catching up took place. It was just so great! It was sort of like I never left. All of my responsibilites that I thought I'd forgotten, came back to me so easily.

I had to work again the next morning. Then, that afternoon I had another bobcat event to do. I was working at Grad Alley with Barbara, Alex, and Stan. I hadn't seen Alex yet, so it was SO nice seeing him. He was graduating this year. I'm the new captain of the bobcat team, which makes me really nervous, because Alex has been the captain for like 5 or 6 years. I will never be able to do the job like him. I feel honored though. After Grad Alley, Stan and I went to see the movie "Identity". I absolutely loved this movie. It has John Cusack in it, who has become one of my favorites. I really loved the twisted ending.

The next day I had yet another bobcat event. This was a big event though, it was graduation. I got to see Melissa in her cap and gown, and it really hit me. She was leaving me! I was pretty sad about the whole matter. I saw Alex and Daniel as well. Daniel's sighting was just by chance. It was a pretty sentimental goodbye as well. After graduation, I made a quick stop at the bursar's office and collected my $200 for passing go (hehe, I couldn't resist the monopoly bit. I did in fact get $200 though, but it was for doing the three bobcat events).

Melissa and I went to Wendy's one last time before she left. Then I helped her cover her car with spirit foam. They left that night. It was a very sad goodbye. I DID NOT WANT HER TO GO. She was the ABSOLUTE BEST roommate, and I will NEVER be able to replace her. Never.

I had to work all day on Friday. I really love my job by the way. I was supposed to stay with Nancy that night, since I couldn't move into NYU Housing until Sunday, but that fell through. I ended up staying with my friend, Yulian (who I met in London). He lives very far into Brooklyn. It was SO nice of him to let me stay with him. He let me sleep in his bed while he slept on the sofa. How nice!!! That night we went to see "The Matrix Reloaded". I was not impressed by this movie. I had been looking so forward to it, but it was exactly like the first one. The fighting routine has been done in so many other movies by now, it wasn't anything spectacular. I did enjoy the love story, it was hot. Carrie Anne Moss was very HOT though. SO sexy during the car scene on that bike! Damn! I was very impressed by her performance. Of course Yulian and I disagreed about everything. Yulian has a car, so we drove to the theater. I honestly would have had a blast just driving around in the car. I really love riding in cars. It's fun to just hang out and chill in a car. I guess I can't explain it very well.

The next day I got up early, took the Q train back into Manhattan and up to 34th street. I was finally going to see my parents!!! I was ready to explode with anticipation by the time I got off that train. We were meeting at our hotel, the Howard Johnson on 34th. I could see Duane's blue hat from the end of the street. I started running and gave him the biggest hug I've ever given him, which was reciprocated. Then I saw my mom! (sniffles, I missed her SOOO much) She was standing inside the hotel. She was teary-eyed. We couldn't check in yet, so we locked up the bags, then had some lunch. Next was some unsuccessful shopping, and then back to the hotel. I ended up getting my own room, which was really nice. I didn't have to deal with Duane's AWFUL snoring!

We had such a WONDERFUL weekend, which I will elaborate on later. I need a break from typing.
