Parent's Weekend!

June 08, 2003 - 11:43 pm

It's been a while, I know.

So I left off with my parents being here. The hotel we stayed at was not so great. I did have my own room, which was nice, but the hotel seemed really old. We went out for dinner that night at Applebees. We all had a great dinner, with a draw of course (mom had two). We all got Bud Light, the best beer in the whole world. It was SOOO good! Afterwards we went to see "Anger Management" starring Jack Nickelson and Adam Sandler. It was a pretty good movie, not quite as funny as I had anticipated, but still good. It was the kind of movie that Duane and Mom like, so we had a good time.

I checked into Carlyle the next morning and got unpacked. Mom had brought me a bunch of stuff from home. We went and bought a microwave and some other necessities. Mom made one of my favorite meals that night...hamburger gravy with whipped potatoes. YUMMMMMMMY!!!

The next day we went back to KMart to get my film developed. We had about an hour to kill in the store. I really wanted some red nail polish, so we picked that up. Mom carried it. Then we decided to go downstairs and look at the DVDs. Well, I was looking at the dvds and Mom was looking at the cds I think. All of sudden I hear my mom saying my name in a weird, stunned kind of voice. I look over at her and she told me to get over there. The red nail polish had literally exploded in her hand. She had it splattered on her face, and there was a big red spot on her shirt. Her hand was completely covered in red nail polish. You couldn't even see her skin, it was all red. It wasn't really funny, but I could not stop laughing. My poor mother. We finally found some assistance in the jewelry department. They gave mom an old bottle of nail polish remover, and then we went to the bathroom. She couldn't get it all off, her hand was stained red for quite a while. Gawd, I couldn't stop laughing. I'd try really hard to bite my lip, but then I'd look at her and burst again. We finally gave up and paid for the pictures. I still don't know how that bottle exploded. She was just holding it!! So funny.

Mom made another good meal that night, another one of my favorites. Grandma usually makes it, but mom gave it a try. Beef and noodles. It was pretty good.

We just sort of hung out for the remainder of the time. I tried to find some clothes for work, but was unsuccessful. I couldn't find anything I liked. Tuesday night we went to Caliente for happy hour. It was ladies night too. We all had a couple of the big margaritas. It was a good time. We ate too many chips though, or at least I did. I had to work Wednesday morning, which went by really fast. Mom and Duane came into the office. They hadn't met Lara yet, so that was the main reason I wanted them to stop by. They'd met everyone else. After that we had lunch at Wendy's. I wanted to eat at someplace nice, but it didn't work out that way. Then we just waited around until it was time for them to go. My mom cried a bit, as usual, even though she probably won't admit to it.

Ever since then, my daily routine has been about the same. I work on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. They are starting to give me a little more responsibility at work. They let met help with a screening, which wasn't too much work, but it was a start.

I've met up with quite a few people. I ran into a bunch of my London friends. Hiro lives on the floor below me at Carlyle, so I run into him quite often. I ran into Cathy a few times and Gill. Lisa came into the city and called me. We met up at Starbucks for about 10 minutes. I couldn't stay long, because I had a screening to get to for work. It was for the movie "Uptown Girls" starring Brittany Murphy. Good movie. I saw another movie with Stan. We saw "Down with Love" starring Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger. It was really good. I wasn't expecting much since I don't like Renee.

Asha came over one afternoon. We talked and caught up a bit. Then we walked down to her area of the city. She wanted me to see this cute bakery by her. She bought me a very delicious cupcake...mmmm. Then we walked some more and ended up at Condom-ania (I think that's what it's called). I'd always wanted to go there. They have these interesting toys and 'neat' condoms. We went to Tower Records and Asha rented some movies and then we parted. It was a good day.

I think I'll end this post by saying that I went home for the weekend (2 weekends ago). It was a very last minute thing, which made the airline tickets very expensive, but I HAD to go home. I was dying to see my family! So, that'll be the beginning to my next entry. Until then...adieu!
